Finnish masters- competition of military sniper marksmanship Simo Häyhä 2018
General information about the competition:
Reserves sport federation of Finland in co-operation with Jaeger Brigade and Finnish sniper guild welcomes you to compete in annual Finnish masters competition in military sniper marksmanship “HÄYHÄ 18” - a sniper competition named after the greatest sniper of all time - Simo Häyhä.
The competition will take place 20th -22th of april 2018 in the Nordic’s biggest live fire exercise area of Rovajärvi, situated in the munincipality of Kemijärvi, Lapland, Finland. Competition will start on 20th april 16:00 GMT +2. The competition will end NLT 22th of april 12:00 GMT +2. There isn’t possibility for zeroing on site.
Competition will be done in 2- 3 person teams, firing distances varying from close quarters to 1200 meters. Maximum caliber in the competition is 338. Lapua Magnum. Due to the tactical scenario of the competition it is recommended that at least one of the team members to carry semi-auto rifle. Maximum amount of ammunition per weapon may be more than 100 rounds. Use of incendiary or AP ammunition is prohibited.
Only Finnish nationals will compete for the title “Finnish master.” The best Finnish team will be appointed the title. Although foreign teams can’t compete for the title they are eligible for the prizes handed out to overall best three teams.
Due to the timing of the competition it is highly likely that the terrain will be in heavy snow cover (30-70 cm of snow depending on terrain) Therefore using skis or snowshoes will be a must. All the movement during stages and between the stages will be done in terrain.
Tactical scenario of the competition is “Sniper pair or fire team supporting light infantry platoon. “ All the tactical scenarios in the competition will take place under this setting.
To be able to successfully compete the competitors need to have following set of skills:
Proficient in sniping conducted in sniper / spotter roles
Proficient in terrain mobility in forested winter environment
Proficient in maintaining action competence during wintertime
Administrative issues:
It is recommended to travel using public means of transportation to Rovaniemi city area. Organizer will transport competitors from Rovaniemi airport, bus and train stations to competition site. There is enough parking space if competitors arrive by car.
Lodging will be indoors. Breakfast and evening snack will be provided to the competitors free of charge. Between breakfast and evening snack the competition will be continuous. Therefore teams will need to bring own rations and stoves and be able to cook their own lunch / dinner / snacks. Water will be supplied during the competition in specified locations and there’s chance to rest and dry equipment in heated military style tents in the waiting areas for the stages.
Entry fee for the competition is 50 euros / competitor and therefore 150 euros for a three man team. Entry fee will cover:
-Lodging indoors
-Use of sauna
-Breakfast and evening snack
Note that the competitors are not insured on behalf of the organizer. Competitors will have to have their own insurance and are required to present proof of the insurance to the organizer before the competition.
Signing in will be done no later than 25th of march to email hayha2018@gmail.com the competitors accepted to compete will be notified NLT 26th of march via email. Competitors will receive more specific information regarding the competition including translated rules of the competition NLT 6th of april.
Equipment
List of equipment that are mandatory in the competition:
weapons (at least 1 weapon per competitor) and ammunition
camouflage suit
Sunglasses
camouflage cover for a backpack
Hearing protection
IFAK including space blanket , tourniquet, emergency bandages
At least 2 litres of water
Thermos with hot water
Compass
Cellphone for emergency purposes
Flaslight etc
Notebook and pen
Knife
Means of lighting a fire and dry tinder
Field stove for preparing meals
Warm jacket for breaks and dry spare set of clothing layer closest to skin (headwear, shirt, gloves, long johns and socks)
Isomat or similar to isolate sniper from the snow. (Can be replaced with isolation installed inside the snow camo suit.)
Skis or snowshoes with bindings, poles. The organizer will provide competitors with Finnish military skis, boots, bindings and poles. Bringing own equipment is recommended
List of equipment that are prohibited in the competition:
-Remote controlled vehicles, including drones.
-Laser emitters / range finders that are not eye safe (classification above 1)
-Equipment that can be used for listening organizers radio communication. (commercial UHF and VHF are ok)
